I swear they've created this ad based on me and my monsters at work! We LOVE our afternoon 'cans' (cans of diet coke that is....) haha and the moment when they boss dumps more work on the desk is just too familiar!
It isn't playing here in Australia, or not that I've seen, which is a shame - it totally makes me laugh

I'm here
I just finished watching Spike Jonze's new short film called "I'm here" - quite beautiful, it's not that 'short' but well worth a look if you've got a little bit of spare time.
quick competition update
Just a quick update on all that exciting competition news, unfortunately I got the phone call I'd been waiting for - haha after not sleeping much at all that night, they finally put me out of my misery and let me know that I hadn't made it to the top 5 finalists.
What fun it all was though! The competition was the Vodafone Ultimate 24 Hour Experience competition.... 24 hours with an unlimited credit card, but at the end of the 24 hours everything had to have been consumed - no shopping sprees, no paying off bills, no surgeries etc etc. so it was all about creating the most exciting experience you could have in 24 hours with you and 3 friends. My monster colleagues and I had such a ball working out exactly what we'd do if they rocked up on my doorstep and told me I'd won on Monday!
The big big let down at the end of it all though, was that when they posted up the top 5 finalists it turns out that the Terms & Conditions weren't followed... the entries didn't follow the rules that were set out by the company and Vodafone's response? they simply don't care.
Now I really didn't think I had much of a chance at all to win the competition when I entered, my 25 words or less were so silly! It was such a surprise and so exciting when I got the phone call telling me I had been shortlisted in the top 30, so I really didn't mind when I was notified that I wasn't in the top 5! I mean sure it would of been great - who'd turn down that sort of experience?! but I'm just trying to explain that my grievances with the competition have nothing to do with sour grapes..... it just stems from the frustration that all these people who worked on their entries to make sure that they followed all the rules, have been knocked out of the opportunity by other entries who really shouldn't have been considered for the top 30!
I don't blame the entrants, I know so many of these competitions that I see I don't bother reading the T&Cs either and just chuck anything in those '25 words or less' entries in the hope that I might get super lucky... but you expect that if you put an entry in which clearly goes against the rules, that it would be ruled out for the chance of winning the big prize.... but no, Vodafone has decided it's not going to follow it's own rules in it's own competition - even after there's been a backlash on the facebook competition page, they haven't showed any interest at all in the fact that people are upset about the way the competition has been conducted.
It's such a poor show of a company ethics - why would you sign a contract with Vodafone, when they won't even follow their own terms and conditions in a silly promotional competition?! what sort of confidence is that supposed to install in you, really. They must have gotten thousands and thousands of entries, and their lack of a proper response to their mistake is really frustrating - shame on you Vodafone.

shaka-what? it's shaka-licious!
I love trying new recipes! I would love to be basing my blog around food, but at the moment I don't feel like I could commit properly to it (test running new recipes regularly or finding new places to review) so I just read everyone elses and enjoy.
One of my favourite food blogs is Smitten Kitchen, Deb there is a genius - not only is she sweet but she finds the best recipes, writes about them in such a way that you find yourself falling in love with every dish and every ingredient, and then she photographs everything she does so beautiful!
Her recipes are always really well explained and easy to follow; she throws in some great advice for the novice but also gets into discussion about the technical sides of things and ingredients for the more advanced foodie.
Her latest post was a dish called 'shakshuka'; it came up on my blog reader just as I was sitting down to work out this weeks shopping list - and I'm calling it fate, because I'm so instantly in love! Her description says it's "an Israeli dish of eggs poached in a spicy tomato sauce", my description say its: simply delicoius!
It's a beautifully balanced dish - too often I find these tomato dishes too heavy and rich, but this was perfect. I had to add ground cumin to my shopping list and I'm looking forward to finding some more recipes to use it in because the combination of the cumin and paprika was just so warming and yummy.
I'm looking forward to adding it to my regular weeknight dinner rotation because it really is so simple to throw together, I hope you try it and enjoy it as much as I have.
Photo and recipe comes from Smitten Kitchen
Shakshuka [Eggs Poached in Spicy Tomato Sauce]
Serves 4 to 6
1/4 cup olive oil
Chillies stemmed, seeded, and finely chopped (Smitten Kitchen says: 5 Anaheim chiles or 3 jalapeƱos - in my supermarket the chillies weren't labelled though plus I'm not a big fan of spicy spicy, so I just grabbed 1 long red chilli and left it at that!)
1 small yellow onion, chopped
5 cloves garlic, crushed then sliced
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon paprika
1 800g can whole peeled tomatoes, undrained
Kosher salt, to taste
6 eggs
1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled (I used danish style, it's so lovely and creamy)
1 tablespoon chopped flat-leaf parsley
Warm pitas, for serving
Heat oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add chillies and onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden brown, about 6 minutes. Add garlic, cumin, and paprika, and cook, stirring frequently, until garlic is soft, about 2 more minutes.
Put tomatoes and their liquid into a medium bowl and crush with your hands. Add crushed tomatoes and their liquid to skillet along with 1/2 cup water, reduce heat to medium, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened slightly, about 15 minutes. Season sauce with salt.
Crack eggs over sauce so that eggs are evenly distributed across sauce’s surface. Cover skillet and cook until yolks are just set, about 5 minutes. Using a spoon, baste the whites of the eggs with tomato mixture, being careful not to disturb the yolk. Sprinkle shakshuka with feta and parsley and serve with pitas, for dipping.

That day - what a mess, what a marvelous mess!
You know that job that comes along and you're just like "ohmygod, did they write that with me in mind?!" well that happened to me about a month or so ago! I was at work at the time and probably shouldn't have been looking at job announcements, so I bookmarked it to look at afterward and when I went back to it that night, I was shattered to realize that it was a job ad from a good month ago and the next day it dropped off the listings. Dammit.....
So now I've signed up to get regular job listings updates, just keeping my eye open and figure on the pulse I guess....
and lo and behold - the same position which I was so devastated to have missed a few months ago, the one that I didn't even get a chance to throw my hat in the ring for, is being re-advertised! Count my lucky stars!
Now I have to add in here, I'm not exactly looking for a new job... I'm fairly happy where I am, but at some point I know that I'll be moving on - my job is decent but really only because I love my monster co-workers! They're great and they make coming into work a pleasure. The job though? Honestly I could take it or leave it (haha except for that little word: 'bills', right?) and often it has me feeling like I'd prefer to be, well anywhere else but there! And like most jobs, it simply doesn't pay me enough to look after all those aforementioned words (yes, those 'bills' once again!).
So I sent my application in (I sent it from work. Oh the guilt, it's killing me! I can't ever keep those little guilty secrets, I just have to blurt it out and relieve myself of it! lol and this is why I never wanted to be James Bond, what sort of secret spy would I be?!) and I think I felt fairly OK about it all, so all my fingers and toes are crossed that maybe I'm the kind of person which they're looking for. The butterflies in my stomach were all a flutter as I pushed that big fat send button!
Ha! and THEN I got an unknown incoming call on my mobile phone - and knock me down with a feather, it was a fella advising me that I've been shortlisted in a fairly exciting competition!
One of those 'in 50 words or less' sort of comps. The guy had a good chat with me, asking me all sorts of questions about my competition entry and some other general questions - thankfully he was pretty decent, because about halfway through I started getting all sorts of nervous (though now I'm kicking myself that I didn't stay calmer and give him better answers to some of his q's!), and that might have been possibly because my monster co-worker at this point had clued into what I was talking about and was jumping around the office, lol
At the end of the conversation he advised that I was one of 30 shortlisted, and they were aiming that within 24 hours they would be making phone calls to advise the lucky 5 finalists.... I politely hung up wishing him a good afternoon and thanking him for his time..... and oh it was on, like Donkey Kong! The excitement simply bubbled over and I was jumping up and down as if I'd already won the prize!!!
I feel like a wirlwind has ripped through my head in the last few hours - in a good way - leaving everything scattered and upside down, and perhaps somebody filled up the new space with laughing gas? Who knows, but it's a pretty fun feeling!
With all my fingers and toes crossed for my job application - perhaps, if you're reading, you wouldn't mind crossing your fingers and toes for my competition entry? lol I seem to be all out of crossable digits right now!
Sorry for the essay tonight my friends, hopefully now that I've shared my excitement I'll be able to settle down and actually sleep tonight; so thank you for listening and I'll keep you posted on both bits of gossip as more news comes to hand!

There's definitely a food theme going on today
I must be hungry -
How about Unicorn meat in a can? Mmmm mmm delicious! Thanks to the genius of ThinkGeek, you too can enjoy this delicacy - which apparently "tastes like rotisserie chicken but with a hint of marshmallow sweetness"
Order yours today!

I wish I could stay, in Buttermilk Bay
Tipsy and buttermilk are two of my favourite words (...you'll soon learn that my world does revolve around food!)
I found out today that there's a spot in Massachusetts called Buttermilk Bay - doesn't that sound like a delightful place?
In my Buttermilk Bay, there would be a cute little cottage just for me and I would spend my time doing nothing but sip cups of tea, take cute Polaroid portraits and making friends with the animals!

What goes better than a cup of tea and a cupcake?
Combining two of my loves together: cupcakes and teacups, oh my! Silicone cupcake molds in the shape of teacups.

Owl love you!
I stumbled across a new blog today and am absolutely smitten: My Owl Barn! So I'm far from the owl devotee that this blogger obviously is, but my goodness there's something I definitely find magical about them! Her enthusiasm for everything owl-y is kind of infectious don't you think?
I was particularly taken by her find of a owl wedding 'ring-bearer' service in Cheshire, where Ollie the owl (the attraction might have something to do with Ollie's resemblance to Hedwig the owl from Harry Potter?) will swoop down and present the Best Man with the jewelry at the right time! Ha! What a perfect moment, especially if you were lucky enough to be organizing a castle wedding!
From brooches to home-wares, art to toys, cupcakes to fashion; it's a wonderful little corner of the world!

I was won over before I got past the first page of My Owl Barn, and THEN I found a past blog she'd made about GhostPatrol who is one of my favourite Melbourne artists - so now I've completely head over heels for this big Owl fan!
It's a pretty little blog full of colour and whimsy, you really should pay her a visit if you have the time!

Sending love in a soupbowl
Spoonful of Comfort - I love this, what a fantastic business idea! 'A Spoonful of Comfort' makes homemade chicken soup with love, and will on your behalf send it to your friend in need of some comfort!
For me, nothing beats flowers - I've always dreamed of becoming a florist, flowers are just what I love and they make me happy! BUT, I know that some people just don't appreciate a fresh bunch of bright stems and for these people, I would LOVE to be able to send a batch of homemade chicken soup to them when they're sick, or maybe even when they just need reminding that we all need looking after sometimes!
I was fortunate to have a mum who prepared soup from scratch with love for us when we were home from school with a fever. I don't think anything smells as comforting to me as the smell of homemade soup slowly simmering on the stove... there's definitely something magic about it for me.
Now if only they would open a branch in Australia.....
How rude of me, let me introduce myself....
Hello, please excuse my rudeness - let me introduce myself....
Wait, lets grab a cup of tea first and take a minute to get to know each other a little better? =)
*ahhh...* thats better!
I love tea... love love love it! I'm not sure whether it's the routine of making a cup of tea, the fragrance of a lovely earl grey, or maybe just the experience when that first sip is swallowed and a relaxed state is welcomed with a little sigh.... I love it!
I also love fruit - hell for me would be to live in a home without fresh fruit or tea in it!
Now I do hope that my writing style doesn't drive you mad, I am aware that I ramble a bit - I'm more of a conversational style writer than a formal writer I guess? I'm sure there's a technical way to break it down.. hmmm something I must read up on!
So who am I? Well I was born and bred a city girl, I lived in a suburb of Melbourne and attended a highschool right in the city - grew up with in the cafe lifestyle I like to think. Nothing seems more normal and enjoyable to me than to meet up with friends for a latte (ah! see you're learning my ways already... at home I love my tea - but in a cafe, I'm a coffee girl) and be surrounded by options for things to do (theater shows, gallery exhibitions, window shopping, movies, bars, book and music shopping, magazine stands, festivals and expos, restaurants, gigs and concerts.. Mmmm!) but now, well, I'm a country girl.
I made the move originally for university, I decided that I didn't want to follow the herd and attend another city uni campus - I wanted to try doing things a little differently! So I applied for a country campus, and at first I hated it. I hated how hard it was to get anywhere without a car, I hated how clicky the social groups were and how far away my friends were, and I hated that there were no options! Nothing to do but a cinema in one town, bowling, and a few cafes in another town where it was normal to hear 'mug-of-chino' being ordered - or join a sporting club that seemed to only consist of netball for girls and football for boys (oh and the teams are made up of players who have played that same sport, and together, all of their lives!).
To cut a long story short, I moved back to the city, then back to the country, then finally back to the city - only to fall in love with a country boy, and move back again! A lot of back and forths... but I'm on my own now, and for the time-being I suppose quite content with the country lifestyle as I finally finish off the degree I started almost 6 years ago now and working full time with some lovely gals.
And, that's pretty much my story to date. Well the gist of it anyway and probably as much as you need to know right now - I'm sure we'll learn things about each other over time!

Where does one begin?
Ok, so I haven't realllly gotten into this new blog writting yet, I know, I'm sorry! You have to understand though, that I have been in the throws of assignment procrastination... and such frivilous (is it scandolous of me to label it frivilous?) activities such as blogging tend to get put into the 'avoid at all costs, else be lost to procrastination forever' box!
But the end is in sight - I have but one little subject to finish off, and then I am free to really sink my teeth into some of the fun activities I've been looking forward to for a while now =)
Oh and creative thought, *Mmmmm...* how have I missed you!
When I am in study mode (or should that be - when I finally get into study mode.. as I really am the queen of procrastination do believe me!) I seem to lose the mindspace and energy for anything creative! It makes me quite sad to be honest. While I'm not Miss Craft or Design 2010 (I wonder if there is a Miss Craft sash existing out there?!), I do like to think of myself as ever so slightly creative while I pour over design-porn (that would be those websites full of delicious sexy pieces of furniture design, typography, photography and the like... not the ones full of 'oh-baby, oh-baby! and gee I love this degrading pose!' type sites, haha) and hope that one day I'll fulfill my dreams of creating something that somebody else will gush over just as much!
