Just a quick update on all that exciting competition news, unfortunately I got the phone call I'd been waiting for - haha after not sleeping much at all that night, they finally put me out of my misery and let me know that I hadn't made it to the top 5 finalists.
What fun it all was though! The competition was the Vodafone Ultimate 24 Hour Experience competition.... 24 hours with an unlimited credit card, but at the end of the 24 hours everything had to have been consumed - no shopping sprees, no paying off bills, no surgeries etc etc. so it was all about creating the most exciting experience you could have in 24 hours with you and 3 friends. My monster colleagues and I had such a ball working out exactly what we'd do if they rocked up on my doorstep and told me I'd won on Monday!
The big big let down at the end of it all though, was that when they posted up the top 5 finalists it turns out that the Terms & Conditions weren't followed... the entries didn't follow the rules that were set out by the company and Vodafone's response? they simply don't care.
Now I really didn't think I had much of a chance at all to win the competition when I entered, my 25 words or less were so silly! It was such a surprise and so exciting when I got the phone call telling me I had been shortlisted in the top 30, so I really didn't mind when I was notified that I wasn't in the top 5! I mean sure it would of been great - who'd turn down that sort of experience?! but I'm just trying to explain that my grievances with the competition have nothing to do with sour grapes..... it just stems from the frustration that all these people who worked on their entries to make sure that they followed all the rules, have been knocked out of the opportunity by other entries who really shouldn't have been considered for the top 30!
I don't blame the entrants, I know so many of these competitions that I see I don't bother reading the T&Cs either and just chuck anything in those '25 words or less' entries in the hope that I might get super lucky... but you expect that if you put an entry in which clearly goes against the rules, that it would be ruled out for the chance of winning the big prize.... but no, Vodafone has decided it's not going to follow it's own rules in it's own competition - even after there's been a backlash on the facebook competition page, they haven't showed any interest at all in the fact that people are upset about the way the competition has been conducted.
It's such a poor show of a company ethics - why would you sign a contract with Vodafone, when they won't even follow their own terms and conditions in a silly promotional competition?! what sort of confidence is that supposed to install in you, really. They must have gotten thousands and thousands of entries, and their lack of a proper response to their mistake is really frustrating - shame on you Vodafone.
